Bill El Wingador Simmons the 5 time Wingbowl Champ whom many considered an icon
in the city of brotherly love Phila, was busted on drug distriubtion charges. 8K worth
of blow to be exact. He was immediately whisked away to county jail on $100,000 full
cash bail. I never knew the man on a personal level. Met him 3 times in my entire life.
An ok guy in my book. A family man and someone you wouldnt mind being friends
with. The first time i met him was in 2004 in what i referred to as the Good Golly Miss
Molly robbery. Nathans qualifier at Molly Pitcher pit stop in Cranberry NJ. He was
awarded a spot at Nathans when it was quite clear that Brian Subich should have
walked away with the trophy. A month later we chatted at the pre Nathans party at
ESPN the zone in NYC. When i heard he was arrested for dealing coke i thought it
was some kind of practical joke that stemmed from the ficticious tabloid know as the
"Onion" but lo and behold it was true as i checked with Philly.com to verify the
source. Everyone wondered how he made a living. I know for a fact that he was
employed by the city as a sanitation worker . Not sure if he is currently employed or
retired from the job. Lets hope he is drawing a pension because you can kiss that job
bye bye if he is convicted . The allegations alone are enough of a reason to terminate
his position. People make jokes about Angelo Cataldi putting up the bail money for
his release or Kobayashi acting as a character witness, but this is real life and not the
fantasy world of competitive eating. Depending on the amt of cocaine he distributed,
he can face anwhere from 5 to 25 years in prison with a max fine of $500 thousand big
ones. Take it from someone that worked briefly for the CJS. Its one thing to be
charged with possesion and another to be charged with distribution. Pretty sad that
his life has deteriorated to this point . I have no idea how long he was involved with
drugs nor do i have any idea if he was getting high on his own supply. I do know that
the after effects of cocaine and or heroine are mind boggling. I have never used
either but i know people that have . Its an addiction you cannot turn on and off like a
faucet. It would not surprise me one bit if a few hits of the white stuff combined with
tootsie rolls made him the 5 time champ he is today. We have no idea what his
financial situation was like. Times are tough people need to make a living somehow
someway. People need to pay bills creditors debts etc etc. Dealing dope is not the
best way to solve the dilemma. Matter of fact its the worst way and the consequences
are even worse. I dont know what this guy was thinking . He probably had no idea he
was being scoped. He prob had his own clientel because i dont think hes that stupid
to sell to undercover narcs. . People are responsible for their own actions and i am
sure he wished this never happened and wished he could turn back the hands of
time but it is what it is. Unfortunatly he has to face the music . Speaking of music its a
crying shame he is not an accomplished rapper for rappers are in and out of prison
for dealing drugs as fast as you and i exit the rest room and to add insult to injury ,
get to resume their million dollar careers in the recording studios. Everyone has a
right to a fair trial and Wing champ Wingador is innocent until proven guilty. Lets wait
